Why I Mote

Published on October 12th, 2021

You may have heard about Mote from our September edition of The EdTech Wave.  It was highlighted in our district’s first-ever digital newsletter while also being introduced as a tool to help teachers personalize their instruction!  Mote is a free Chrome extension that allows you to seamlessly record and insert voice notes in Google Docs, Slides, Forms, Classroom and any other internet site, including YouTube videos. This extension will allow you to provide more meaningful and personalized feedback to your students while offering additional accessibility options for all learners. Furthermore, it can be a great way to better connect to families where emails now include voice Motes in their native language!

Ways to Use Mote

  1. Save time by providing audio feedback on tasks and assessments.
  2. Provide greetings and explanations to students and parents alike.
  3. Translate your Motes for your bilingual students (premium feature included in 60-day trial period)
  4. Personalize or customize all Google Workspace platforms into more interactive materials.
  5. Create scaffolded resources for your ELL students by providing voice Motes in addition to text.
  6. Use voice Motes to enhance vocabulary understanding (all subjects) and improve digital word walls.
  7. New Feature! QR Motes and Sticky Motes!

Let's Mote it Up!

I learned about Mote in the spring of 2021 and I was hooked right away! As a Tech Coach, I see the value of Mote for all subject areas and grade levels. I've become truly passionate about Mote, and try to watch as many tutorial videos as possible!  I love how Mote has taken teacher feedback and built the platform up to a whole new level between its YouTube channel for “how to” videos, and The Hub (a growing library of resources to help you and your students make the most of Mote). Download the extension and see what Mote can do for you and your school community!  LB's EdTech team was proud to select Mote as September's tech tool of the month as a result of its many features and options. Now is as good a time as any to hop aboard the Mote train to enhance your feedback and build a stronger classroom community! For all of the above reasons (and many more), it's #WhyIMote!

    Lois Alston

Hi, I'm Lois! This is my 5th year as an EdTech Specialist and my 19th year in education. As technology's role in teaching continues to grow, I have become quite passionate about implementing a variety of EdTech platforms to improve/enhance my instruction and add value to my students' learning. As a lifelong learner, I’m always looking for ways to keep students engaged in the material at hand to help prepare them for the future. I love my current role as an EdTech because I’m now able to work with teachers and students throughout the LBPS Community! Moving ahead, I will continue to find and introduce effective tech tools and strategies to share with my colleagues.
